Our team at Premium Classic Cars is currently working on a full and detailed restoration of the legendary 1962 Mercedes 190 SL. We specialize in this particular model, restoring and repairing around 12 every year. The 190 SL is an undeniable classic, appearing in films such as G.I Blues, starring Elvis Presley in 1960; The Thrill of It All, starring Doris Day in 1963, as well as the popular TV series Starsky and Hutch and The A-Team. The car stands as the icon for German engineering and economic recovery, first released in 1955 and having won the 1956 Macau Grand Prix with Douglas Steane behind the wheel, it celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2015.
This particular vehicle will be fully restored to its original specifications, undergoing a long list of highly detailed work. We will give you a quick sum of all that that has been done so far in to restoring a legend back to glory. So far the car has been stripped and all its parts have been sorted, the engine, the gearbox as well as the drivetrain has been re-built. The chrome of the car has been re-platted, the car’s stripped body has been carefully re-painted, and a new windscreen has been fitted. All of these jobs have been done in house by our specialized restoration team, except for the paint work which is all done by a specialist body-shop.
Coming up next in the restoration process, is the fitting of the new hides, which have been ordered, the fabric roof will also be installed, as well as the required electronics.
