Jim Marland is the founder of the first really correct C & D Type Jaguar replica cars, which went on to be built as highly regarded cars with excellent engineering by the Proteus Car Company.
Cars were usually sold on a self-build basis with various inspections at the Proteus works planned into the build.
The finished weight of the cars typically under 1100 Kgs so power to weight ratio remains exciting with Proteus cars.
YEN 97 V is a car constructed in the early 80s from the engine and running gear of an XJ 6. Using Getrag 5 speed box & LSD coupled to correct trailing arm suspension. The famed 4.2 unit with Carburition supplied by 2″ SU Carbs fitted to a heat wrapped modified bespoke Exhaust Manifold ensures the car Sounds as well as it looks!
A bespoke radiator with Kenlowe electric fan, which has been rebuilt by Premium Classic Cars accounts for the excellent condition & set up of this car.
Switches and cockpit finishes are all very close to the iconic original cars , with even the correct spare plug rack fitted on the driver’s door sill & a lovely period correct Woodrim steering wheel. The jaguar Le Mans C-type style instruments with black leather seats help set this car off as a real step back in time.
This delightful Getrag unit is well suited to long distance cruising with ratios well matched for enjoyable & rapid progress on country roads.
Only 52 original C-type Jaguars were ever manufactured, between 1951- 1953. The legendary reputation in Motorsport was sealed with 3 Le Mans victories in 1951, 1953 & 1955. The car offered here for sale even carries the wonderful off white roundels associated with this era of competition over BRG period correct paintwork.
This car built in the 80s wears a lovely patina & benefits from very recent restoration work at Premium Classic Cars. This has included a new Clutch with full engine detailing and some age related paint defects will be lovingly re-sprayed before the car goes to a new owner.
This car has covered 39,857 miles.
And has been the subject of very careful preparation for sale including a fresh MOT certificate and set up on the Dyno.
In keeping with period & importantly for safety and comfort this car is equipped with Willans 4 x point harnesses.
The driving position of these cars is great , heel & toe gear changes hard to resist with the bark from the 4.2 Jaguar engine so close at hand . Brakes are sharp with excellent turn in, so this is very much a car to be enjoyed by a ” spirited driver “.
