The DB2 production car was first shown in April 1950 at the New York Motor Show. Demand was incredibly strong and Astons were not able to build cars fast enough. The success of the team cars during the 1950 Le Mans 24 hour race (hastily snatched from the production line) will certainly have made the DB2 a more attractive car to the post war sporting motorist.
During a production run of three years a total of 411 DB2′s were built including 102 examples of an attractive drophead coupe.
Like all the finest British Sports cars the Aston DB2 had centre lock wire wheels & the standard engine produced 105 horsepower.the highly desirable 125-bhp ” Vantage ” version was later offered at extra cost . The 4-speed manual gear box , a David Brown Industries product was available as either floor mounted or a steering – Column shifter.
The DB2 undoubtedly beautiful, was more a competition car than a fully fledged road machine.The Aluminium Body with handcrafted panels at Feltham featured a hinged front section , Bonnet , nose and bumpers all tilted forward giving good access for the track.
Both Owners & the press all agreed the Aston Martin DB2 had a superb Chassis, outstanding performance especially in Vantage Spec. Over the four year production run the car was refined & improved, original racing orientated features such as engine bay Louvers were abandoned in favour of better quality trim & improved seating.The simple three piece Grill was displaced by a more stylish one piece design in 1951.
This particular original Right hand drive car has resided with its last owner for 14 years in Italy. During which time an outstanding mechanical & bodywork restoration has been done by a dedicated small firm in Como Italy.
During this ownership the car has been granted its ” Deutscher Motorveteranen Club ( DEUVET ) Fahrzeugpass ( FIA Historic Passport ) and taken part in the Mille Miglia no less than Seven times , fitted with a ” rally trip meter.the car is in outstanding condition with a wonderful Patina , retaining original leather interior. Finished in Gleaming period Black Paintwork with original Red Wire wheels & matching Red Grill the car has outstanding visual presence.
With an excellent ” documented history file including a full photo record from Mille Miglia outings. This original matching Numbers car includes the Vantage – Upgrade by Aston Martin in 1953. Records clearly indicate regular Aston Martin Service work. An early owner of the car was Dick Williams affectionately known as ” Dick the Fish ” the car was raced in the 1950′s including both Silverstone, achieving 3rd in class & notable Hill Climb success.
Early post-war Astons have really caught the attention of investment minded collectors, eligibility & a warm Welcome at many of the most prestigious historic Rallies & events Is assured for this car, the organisers love to see regular attendance from such historic cars, certainly this Vantage specification promises, truly outstanding driving pleasure with only the ingredients of fabulous unspoilt roads needed to complete the opportunity. Most importantly this car has a record of outstanding reliability for such events as the Mille Miglia a testament to the preparation & condition of the car.
The car can be viewed with us in Suffolk, and will be set up at L.M.B. in Belgium, on their rolling Road facility , prior to being delivered to a new owner, so as to be absolutely on the button for any next outing.
Please note LML/50/111 has done the Mille Miglia in the years 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004.
