ALLARD - J2X Continuation ! NOW SOLD !

Allard began as a phenomenon of the Automotive post war Renaissance. These were the years immediately following the end of the second World War.The early cars fostered by Charismatic genius earned immediate respect both on the road and the track. Ferrari & Porsche pursued a strategy of breaking new boundaries with engineering and aesthetic finesse some times considered to be an Art form however Sydney Allard’s approach was the very Antithesis ! Early cars were pure machines, almost crude however a single minded effort to harness brute torque & horsepower and most effectively & apply it to the road.Allard was not alone in matching monstrous American V8′s to a stripped down British Chassis in this era, but he was the most successful people associate Allard with brute power, however Sydney Allards real forte was in the suspension Cars featured the de-Dion rear end. This system fabricated from light steel tubing and a Ford centre section gave the sporting and competitive Allards a form of Independent rear suspension ten years ahead of the competition. Allard produced less than 200 of the famous ‘J’ models, just 83 of the Iconic J2X The early 50′s saw Aluminium bodied Allards consistent winners on both sides of the Atlantic, wins at Watkins Glen,Sebring and Pebble Beach often associated with such famous names as John Fitch, Bill Pollock Maston Gregory & Carroll Shelby. The strong Allard /Cobra family resemblance is more than just a coincidence Shelby going on to design & produce the Incredible Cobra. Two Cadillac powered J2X cars were entered in the 1953 Le Mans. Pitifully under financed , honours for leading the 1st lap went to none other than Sydney Allard himself mechanical problems saw both cars retire. The Le Mans entry was symbolic of the Allard marque. A hard charging combination of ingenuity & inspiration, running full -bore on a shoestring budget. Mr Allard continued to pursue his automotive interests for several years after commercial production halted in 1954 Sydney Allard died of Cancer in 1966 just a few days after an office fire destroyed much of the firm’s archives.
